Ivy is prolific in the English countryside, covering trees, dry stone walls and if left to run, whole barns. I love the way Ivy covers the structure that supports it, turning it into a soft, organic being. I love seeing this dark green three dimensional fabric covering sofas and chairs, the leaves stretching and twisting over the soft shapes of the arms and cushions.
Which type of fabric to order:
This design is printed on both cotton canvas and a cotton velvet. Velvet is a good fabric for sofas, chairs and cushions as it’s so hardwearing, soft and luxurious. A velvet sofa is a dream to sit in. Most upholstery velvets are made of polyester which is made from petrochemicals which are not biodegradable, but ours is made of cotton, a natural fabric.
Cotton canvas is a great fabric for curtains and blinds because it’s flat, without the strokable ‘nap’ of velvet, so it folds or rolls into a smaller spaces and the print is clean and sharp.
This cotton velvet is 140cm wide, the design has a repeat drop of 51cm and the fabric weight is 250 gsm (grams per square metre).
